## What the sheet prints

A soldier stands in a backyard among brick tenements with his bag beside him. People lean from steps, windows, a tree, and a rooftop to wave. Service flags hang in some windows. The words are few.

## Who issued it

The record says the issuer is not printed. The small line credits the picture to a Norman Rockwell painting for a Saturday Evening Post cover. The archive classes the issuer type as mixed: a commercial magazine image reused for a government loan. The National Archives holds it in the Record Group 44 poster series. This page does not name the cover's issue date, which the record does not give.

## How to read it

This is the war's end as a bond appeal. The fighting is not shown. The picture is the return, and the slogan says money can bring it sooner. The archive tags it plain folks. The yard is ordinary, the clothes are ordinary, and the welcome comes from a whole block.

"Hasten" is the working word. The sheet does not show how a bond would shorten any particular man's service, and it does not claim a figure for how much sooner. It is a promise of a feeling, not a schedule. Read that way, it is a mild poster. It asks for a loan by showing what people wanted most. Nothing in it is false, and nothing in it is measured.

Rockwell's best-known government work on this site is the Four Freedoms series, including Freedom of Speech. The Treasury's numbered drives of the same year include the 7th War Loan. The poster system as a whole is on the Office of War Information hub.
