## The frame

A woman and a man sit at a round desk in a television studio. Behind them, a screen reads "Nuestra América." At the right edge of the frame, a logo is cut off after "TV Mar"; the archive reads it as TV Martí from the Wikimedia Commons category and caption. That is the whole of the visible text. The image came to Commons from the Broadcasting Board of Governors photo gallery, and the archive dates it 23 July 2008.

Transcription in the FRAME record, read from the image and not independently checked. The archive's English rendering, "Our America," is labelled a machine translation by Claude, not verified by a fluent reader. Full record at propagandaarchive.org.

## A borrowed name

The archive's technique tag is transfer, and its tell is the name. The service takes the name of José Martí, a figure Cuba's government also invokes. The archive adds two facts that cut the other way: the service is funded by the U.S. Congress, and the sponsor is named on the set. Nothing here is disguised as a Cuban station.

The record's audience field reads "Foreign public," its purpose field "Persuade or win support," and its source tag "Identified," openly sourced. The record does not include any broadcast content beyond this one still, so this page cannot say what Nuestra América reported or how it was received in Cuba.

## Taxpayer-funded speech abroad

Government broadcasting to a foreign country sits in a particular place for a free society. It is speech paid for by taxpayers and aimed at people who cannot vote on it. An open sponsor line is the minimum a citizen should ask of it, and this set meets that minimum. Whether the programming itself was news or advocacy is a separate question this record cannot answer.

The same office's later work appears in the Trump administration essay, which notes the archive's Martí Noticias title card of 10 June 2026 and calls the service a government broadcaster aimed at a foreign audience. The U.S. Information Agency hub covers an earlier generation of government messaging for audiences abroad, including the 1951 Voice of America poster Everybody's Listening.
