  US anti-Japanese posters
US anti-Japanese posters in this gallery are the English-language wartime sheets in the FRAME snapshot whose titles name Japan, the Japanese, Tokio, or Tojo, plus the 1920 Sacramento Bee pamphlet on Japanese immigration. Each card prints the primary identifier the archive records. Image files stay on propagandaarchive.org.

These are United States sheets, not Japanese government posters. The pictures were made for American plants, bond drives, the Navy's industrial shops, and, in a few cases, for a film or a newspaper pamphlet. Foreign-language sheets printed for audiences in China or Latin America are left out, even when the archive holds them. So are equipment cartoons that mention a "Jap" only in passing, uniform charts, and three Puck covers that do not attack Japan: the 1904 "Yellow Peril" centerfold aims that phrase at Russia, and the 1907 exclusion cover argues against keeping Japanese immigrants out. Those records stay on propagandaarchive.org. They are not relabeled here.

Where this site has rewritten the object, the card opens that page. Otherwise the card opens the FRAME record. The identifier under the title is the one the snapshot prints. If the line says "no primary id in the snapshot," the archive tombstone did not give a NARA number, and this page does not invent one.

A racial caricature and the word "Jap" are the sheets' habits, not this site's names for Japanese people or for Japanese Americans. The empire, the people, and the citizens are three subjects. The internment-propaganda page is the place for the exclusion order and the Wanto Co. window. The order also appears below because its title names Japanese ancestry and the photograph is a public record of the posting. Tokio Kid is the plant series. This Is the Enemy (OWI Poster No. 76) is not in this gallery: that plate shows a swastika, not a Japanese figure.
