A 1953 Chinese-language leaflet, serial 8724, from United Nations Command psychological warfare run by the U.S. Army. An old man, two women and a boy sit and stand at a table at home, beside lines saying the reader is far from home and cannot be reunited with his kin, and that "it is all the Communist Party's doing" in the archive's translation.
Aimed at homesickness
The picture is ordinary on purpose. The archive describes an old man and two women at a table, with a young boy standing by, drawn in a plain domestic style. Three bands of text run beside them, and the last, on red, names the party responsible. The reader was a soldier on the other side of the line in Korea, and the family on the sheet stands for his.
你們遠離家鄉
不能骨肉團圓
[Red band, vertical:] 都是共產党害的
[Lower right, serial:] 8724
The archive's machine translation, which it labels unverified, reads: "You are far from your home village; you cannot have your flesh and blood reunited. It is all the Communist Party's doing." The archive also notes a printing detail. The red band sets the simplified form 党 after a traditional 產, and the record keeps the mixed form as printed.
No issuer on the leaflet
The maker line reads "United Nations Command psychological warfare (U.S. Army), serial 8724; issuer not named on the leaflet." The archive's image comes from a Wikimedia Commons scan, credited to psywarrior.com, retrieved 2 October 2026, and the record gives no National Archives identifier. FRAME classes the source as blurred. It records the audience as enemy forces, the purpose as "Demonize," the event as the Korean War and the themes as war and the military, and home front.
One cause for every loss
FRAME's tag is scapegoating, and its note is precise: the tell is the one-line attribution of a family's separation to a single party. A soldier far from home has many reasons for being there. The leaflet gives him one, and makes it the other side's.
That is the method in its plainest form. The sheet does not argue the point. It shows a family and assigns the blame, and the U.S. Army's part in the war that also kept the soldier away is not on the page. The leaflet names no sender, so the soldier holding it could not easily weigh the source.
The Korean War messaging hub groups 8724 with the leaflets that "go home with the soldier." Its companion there, leaflet 7255, works on the same reader with an insult instead of a family.
