COVID-19 slogans and PSAs in the US

US COVID-19 slogans in this record include "Slow the Spread" on the March 16, 2020 White House and CDC mailer, and "Staying home saves lives" on an April 2020 Advertising Council and CDC announcement. The issued pamphlet of March 16, 2020 is titled "Fifteen days to slow the spread" (CDC Stacks cdc:86082).

This page lists slogans and public-service lines that an office actually issued, plus one shorthand that the March 16 pamphlet does not use as its title. "Public health campaigns" and "public health messaging" are the section hub's terms, not this page's title.

Lines an office printed

  • Slow the Spread. Heading of the March 16, 2020 household card, White House and CDC. The card is the guidelines mailer.
  • Fifteen days to slow the spread. Title of the CDC Stacks pamphlet, corporate authors the Executive Office of the President and the CDC, publication date 3/16/20. The card transcription does not contain those three words. The pamphlet does.
  • Stay home / save lives. Not the card's heading. Oregon Executive Order 20-12 is titled "Stay Home, Save Lives." CDC Stacks cdc:88175, April 2020, corporate authors the Advertising Council and the CDC, is titled "Staying home saves lives." Both are cited on the mailer page so the slogan stays next to the March guidelines.
  • We Can Do It! We Can Slow the Spread of COVID-19. CDC poster, control code CS321637, 12/21/2020. The 1943 Westinghouse poster is a different object.

Vaccine and coronavirus PSAs

The April 2020 Advertising Council and CDC item above is a public-service announcement in the CDC Stacks record, filed under coronavirus.gov. On June 2, 2021 a White House fact sheet announced a National Month of Action and said a list of incentives would be posted at Vaccines.gov/incentives.html. That fact sheet is a campaign announcement. It is not a medical instruction, and this page does not repeat dosing advice.

"Two weeks to flatten the curve"

The document issued on March 16, 2020 is titled "Fifteen days to slow the spread," not "two weeks to flatten the curve." The second phrase circulated later as a shorthand for that short initial period. This page does not assign the shorthand to an agency that did not print it as a title. Searches for the phrase land here so the issued title and the later wording stay distinct. There is no verdict in the heading.

COVID-19 advertisements and commercials, where they are government or Ad Council items, are the PSA lines above. Brand advertising for a manufacturer is outside this list.
