All 211 Jim Berryman cartoons in the snapshot, 1928–1963

Every row in the FRAME snapshot credited to the Washington Evening Star and its cartoonist Jim Berryman, one card per cartoon, from March 1928 to October 1963. Cards run in date order and show the date and the National Archives identifiers the archive records.

The grid has no selection in it. It takes every record in the snapshot whose maker line names Jim Berryman, and that is 211 cartoons, each from the Washington Evening Star. Sports, holiday greetings and the occasional tribute sit in the same run as the political cartoons, because they sit in the same file at the National Archives.

The line under each title gives the date the archive records and then the identifiers. For 177 cards there are two: NAID 5730852 is the series, Jim Berryman Political Cartoons, in the Records of the U.S. Senate, and the second number is the drawing itself. For the other 34 the record gives the item number alone. The item numbers climb with the dates, so the grid's order and the Archives' order are the same.

Titles are the catalog's. Some are printed on the drawing and some were supplied later; where the archive marks a title as untitled or as the National Archives' own, the card keeps that wording. Where this site has an essay, the card opens it. Otherwise it opens the FRAME record.

A few cards show ethnic caricature or print an ethnic slur, and they are shown as the paper printed them. The hub page says which, and how this site reads a newspaper's cartoons as distinct from a government's posters.
