US World War I home-front posters, 1917–1919

184 sheets from the FRAME snapshot, dated 1917 to 1919, issued by the Treasury's loan and savings-stamp drives, the Committee on Public Information, the U.S. Food Administration and the bodies that printed under it, the recruiting services, and two councils of defense. Cards run in date order and show the identifier the archive records.

The grid takes every sheet in the snapshot's Wilson administration rows dated 1917 to 1919 whose maker line names one of the home-front offices this hub covers: the Treasury and its local Liberty Loan committees, the War Savings Stamps campaign, the Committee on Public Information, the U.S. Food Administration (with its state, county and city offices, and the businesses that printed pledges to it), the Army, Navy and Marine Corps recruiting services, New York's Mayor's Committee on National Defense, and the federal and state councils of defense. The Food Administration holds 91 of the cards, the loan and stamp drives 56, recruiting 31, the committee 4, and the councils 2.

Most sheets have no date more exact than a year. Within a year the cards keep the order of the snapshot, and the few with a month or a day come last in their year. Where this site has an essay, the card opens it. Otherwise it opens the FRAME record.

The line under each title is the date the archive gives and the identifier it records. For 170 of the cards that identifier is the same series number, NAID 512439, the World War I Posters series in the Food Administration's record group at the National Archives; the item numbers are on the FRAME records. The Library of Congress copies carry no NARA number, and the line says "no primary id in the snapshot." This page does not supply one.

Left out on purpose: the Red Cross, the United War Work Campaign and private relief committees; Department of Agriculture farm notices; the Shipping Board's and the Ordnance Department's posters for war workers; the Army's Service Series posters for soldiers in uniform; recruiting for the Polish, Czechoslovak and British forces; and a handful of sheets filed with the Food Administration posters that name no issuer at all. The reasons are on the hub page, Liberty Loans, the CPI and the World War I home front, 1917–1919.
